Requesting an Audition

We generally hold auditions for new singers twice a year, in January and in August. Auditions are by appointment only. Our rehearsals are scheduled for every Monday night, so please keep that in mind before you audition.

Our Fall Auditions will take place on Monday, August 4 and Monday, August 11 at First United Methodist Church in the Music Center.

To request an audition, please send an email to info@sdmasterchorale.org. In your message, please include all of the following information:

Our audition process

When you arrive for your audition, a member of the Chorale will greet you and answer any questions you may have. The audition consists of two parts:

  • A vocal audition with our Music Director. Please come with a prepared solo or aria to sing. (You may use sheet music, or sing from memory.) We provide an accompanist, so please bring a copy of the music for the accompanist. (No tape recorded accompaniment, please.) You will also do some further vocal exercises with the Director to help evaluate range, timbre, and other aspects of your voice.
  • A brief written quiz on musical symbols and terms. You need not study for this quiz. It is meant to see how well you understand written music and music theory.

Auditions are generally held at FUMC.  Here is a link to that location:
