SCHOOL OUTREACH
In order to bring choral music education to underserved public schools in San Diego County, the Chorale provides The History of Choral Music for third and fourth graders. Presented by five volunteer docents, this 45-minute highly interactive program uses a Power Point presentation, recorded music and live singing by the students and docents, costumes and instruments in a 45 minute overview of 1,000 years of choral music. A "Slice of History" timeline links musical concepts to important historical events. A vocabulary list is emailed to teachers in advance to enable them to familiarize their students with musical terms. The goal of the program is to encourage children to begin a life-long interest in music and singing. The program falls within the California State Educational framework for Visual and Performing Arts.
