San Diego Master Chorale will return to Coronado after nearly 30 years to showcase their repertoire
The San Diego Master Chorale will be returning to Coronado on May 31 to showcase the breadth and range of their repertoire, in what they’re calling a “mixtape” performance.
The “playlist” for this performance started with more than 5,000 selections of music, according to San Diego Master Chorale music director John Russell. It was a big task to narrow down.

Review of Brahms Requiem
All of the musical settings of the Catholic Church’s Requiem service used the same Latin liturgical format until Johannes Brahms decided to write his Requiem in 1868. Brahms created his own Requiem text, selecting passages from Martin Luther’s translation of the Bible, and instead of the terrors of the Last Judgement—the centerpiece of the Latin Requiem—Brahms chose texts that celebrated the joy of heaven in the Divine Presence.
