Description

SD Master Chorale Honors Men and Women of the Armed Forces with a Dedicated Performance from the USS Midway – “Patriotism During a Pandemic”

The SD Master Chorale honors fallen members of the US Armed Forces by performing a Memorial Day program on the flight deck of the USS Midway. The patriotic musical program was recorded on April 24, 2021 and will be available to the general public at no charge on Memorial Day, May 31, 2021.

The chorale is frequently called upon to perform choral music that recognizes San Diego’s significant military history, including singing the armed services music with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra every season. For this Memorial Day event, Music Director John K. Russell has selected a special program including the classic “Alleluia” by Randall Thompson to reflect and remember America’s heroes against the backdrop of one of the most iconic aircraft carrier museums in the United States.

Highlights of this Memorial Day remembrance will include The Star-Spangled Banner (Arranged by Darmon Meader), In Flanders Fields (Eleanor Daley), Alleluia (Randall Thompson), and An American Hymn (Arranged by Cecil Effinger).

“This is a very uplifting concert and a proud moment as we honor and celebrate the tremendous service and sacrifice of our men and women of the Armed Forces. We have a number of veterans that sing in the Master Chorale—our very own Jeff Wallin has a helicopter dedicated to his name on the flight deck of the USS Midway—so it is particularly special to all of us. We are also thrilled to be planning our upcoming 60th anniversary year and for live events again where we can share the joy of live, professional-caliber choral music”, said John K. Russell, Music Director.
