“[Y]ou need to know this piece. There is simply no other artistic response to the pain and fury being expressed in communities across our nation that is more contemporary or relevant.” —Walter Bittner
Revisit selections from SD Master Chorale’s deeply moving 2019 performance of Joel Thompson’s “Seven Last Words of the Unarmed,” performed with San Diego State University Symphony Orchestra, with commentary from the composer and SDSU Director of Orchestras Michael Gerdes. Thompson’s gripping work sets the final words of Black men killed by authority figures in the framework of a liturgical lament.
