FROSTIANA

NOVEMBER 2-3, 2024

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of legendary American poet Robert Frost, the San Diego Master Chorale is partnering with The Robert Frost Society, Library Foundation SD, San Diego Public Library and Sweetwater Union High Schools to present a series of concerts and community programs in honor of the occasion. Robert Frost (1874–1963) was an iconic American poet, renowned for his vivid depictions of rural life and masterful use of American colloquial speech. His works explore complex social and philosophical themes, earning him four Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry.

"The poetry of Robert Frost really brings people together. The details that Robert Frost puts into his writing help us all reflect on where we all can come together and find common ground."

Our season opens with an enchanting program commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of legendary American poet Robert Frost (1874-1963) with a performance of Randall Thompson’s Frostiana. This concert will also feature works by American composers Anthony Trecek-King, Shawn Kirchner, Stephen Paulus, Jennifer Lucy Cook, and H.T. Burleigh. Immerse yourself in the rich, evocative world of Frost’s poetry brought to life through Thompson’s exquisite music.

ABOUT ROBERT FROST Born in San Francisco, California, Robert Frost (1874-1963) was an American poet much admired for his depictions of rural life in New England, his command of American colloquial speech, and his realistic verse portraying ordinary people in everyday situations. An American literary icon who launched his career in England, Robert Frost created the role of poet in residence and taught at Amherst College, the University of Michigan, Harvard, and Dartmouth universities. As the nation’s first inaugural poet, he read “The Gift Outright” at President John F. Kennedy’s inauguration, and, later in life, he served as a cultural ambassador to the Soviet Union, Brazil, and Israel. He is the only American poet to have won the Pulitzer Prize in poetry four times.
