San Diego Master Chorale Presents Brahms' Requiem in an intimate Two-Piano Arrangement on April 26-27, 2025
(San Diego, California) — The San Diego Master Chorale (SDMC) presents Johannes Brahms’ Requiem (A German Requiem), an awe-inspiring choral work of solace and reflection. Conducted by Music Director John K. Russell, this special performance will take place on April 26 & 27 at 4:00 PM at Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church, 2128 Chatsworth Blvd, San Diego.
Unlike traditional requiems, Brahms’ masterpiece offers comfort to the living rather than mourning the departed, weaving lush harmonies and emotional depth into one of the most cherished choral works of all time. This performance will feature Brahms’ own rarely heard arrangement for two pianos, showcasing pianists Bryan Verhoye and Jessie Chang, bringing a chamber-like intimacy to the work while preserving its grandeur and emotional intensity.
Brahms’ Requiem will also feature renowned soloists Carron Martin, soprano, and Matthew Fallesen, baritone, with Heather Barclay on timpani.
“The Brahms Requiem is one of the most deeply human and spiritually uplifting choral works ever written,” said Music Director John K. Russell. “Its message of comfort and peace transcends time and speaks to us all. This two-piano arrangement brings out the clarity and nuance of Brahms’ writing for the chorus in a way that feels incredibly personal and powerful.”
Tickets for Brahms’ Requiem are $30 adult, $25 senior/military, $15 students and free for children under 12 and may be purchased at sdmasterchorale.org.
